Winter Banquet 2009
\The Lodge held its annual Winter Banquet on January 10th and it was hosted by Wulowachtauwoapin Chapter. The weather presented a snowstorm Friday night and into Saturday which dumped 8 to 10 inches on Northern Illinois and only 88 Arrowmen braved the weather to attend. The event was held at Turner Hall in Monroe, Wisconsin. The Lodge Executive Committee met at 3:00PM preceding the dinner. Jim Conners, Chapter Advisor, was able to have two half barrels of root beer from the Joseph Huber Brewing Company and many trays of sugar treats from the Swiss Colony donated for the arrowmen to enjoy. The menu was chicken cordon bleu, Swiss steak, Rosti (Swiss hash browns with Swiss cheese), Vegetable Medley, European style Rolls, Spatzli (Swiss style dumpling) , and Salad Bar served banquet style. The food was excellent! The cost $20.00 per person, which included an event patch. A program was a presentation by Mr. Peter Keeley who is a re-actor portraying Col. James Bentlif, of the Civil War period. His presentation was the life of James Bentlif who was born in England and moved to Monroe Wisconsin in Green County and then was Commissioned into the U.S. Army during the Civil War. He would later be retired as Brigadier General. Our Lodge Chief, Dan Dick, was part of his program dressed in period volunteer Union Army attire. New Lodge Flap and Council Strip patches were introduced to reflect the new design of the National Boy Scout uniform. Lee Binkley and his son Matt presented their immense scouting collection of patches and neckerchiefs as well as other camp and Order of the Arrow memorabilia for all to enjoy. At the conclusion of the evening, the Founders Awards were presented. This year receptions were Dan Dick and Jimmye Cox. |
